The main objective of the Postgraduate Program in Cell and Molecular Biology is to train professionals, researchers and teachers with an in-depth and integrated view of the different aspects of Cell and Molecular Biology.

The Postgraduate Program in Cell and Molecular Biology (PPGBCM) started its activities in 2009 and was accredited by CAPES in 2010.

The PPGBCM is part of the Department of Biological Sciences I, working in the field of Cell and Molecular Biology, and has two lines of research, namely

• Cell Biology and Physiology - In this line of research, teachers, students and technicians study the repercussions of different physiological states on cell structure and physiology, cell-cell integration and tissue formation;
• Structural Molecular Biology - In this line of research, teachers, students and technicians develop studies focused on biochemistry, immunology, biophysics, structural biology, human and microbial genetics, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, human and environmental microbiology and virology.

GENERAL AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the PGBCM is to train teachers and researchers with high technical-scientific-academic capacity to work in teaching, research and production in the field of Cell and Molecular Biology, specifically in the areas of Structural Molecular Biology and Cell Biology and Physiology.

The training includes

• Enabling the student to teach in higher education institutions;
• Developing a critical spirit towards the academic production in their field;
• Promote scientific and technological development in their field of knowledge and related fields;
• Disseminate and apply technical and scientific knowledge locally and regionally.
