Palestra do Prof. Dr. Gustavo Peixoto dia 10/03 às 10h no auditório do PPGEM

Osteoporosis is a bone disease with high socio-economical impact as well as a public health issue. Its relationship to bone fragility and fracture risks has been a challenging topic of study in the field of computational biomechanics. The interest in establishing a standard biomarker to grade the bone fragility in individuals is the focus of this research. This talk will present an introductory overview on the application of the geometry-based micro-finite-element analysis (GB-µFEA) to the trabecular bone network to analyze compression responses. The mathematical modelling uses a neo-Hookean solid as constitutive model and will be briefly discussed. Finally, computational simulations for healthy and unhealthy bone structures will be showed to illustrate the results.
