TÍTULO: CHARACTERISTICS OF LONG COVID: A SURVEY-BASED STUDY IN BRAZILIAN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE
PALAVRAS-CHAVES: COVID-19, Long COVID, Primary Health Care
PÁGINAS: 72
RESUMO: A significant number of patients experience heterogeneous sequels following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, known as Long COVID. In Brazil, the knowledge regarding Long COVID prevalence, its specific clinical outcomes and overall impact on population health is severely limited. Hence, there is an emergent need for the development of comprehensive national studies with a future implication for certain primary health care policies. To address these existing gaps, the study aims to describe Long COVID and its characteristics in a Brazilian population attended at the Primary Health Care (PHC) level. The study had two phases: 1) Pre-Long COVID phase- a cross-sectional study based on data analysis of a routine standardized diagnostic questionnaire which was applied during 2020-2021 pandemic prior to investigate active COVID-19 cases; 2) Long COVID phase-development (2021-2022) and launch (2023-present) of a Long COVID survey. Both phases took place in the Family Health Care Units (USF) – a public ambulatory facility located in different sanitary districts of Joao Pessoa. A comprehensive set of 18 outcomes was developed and validated with a subsequent face-to-face interview of adult survivors of acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. The study draw attention to the prevalence of specific outcomes with a trace of their course and severity, duration and back to baseline, association with specific demographic characteristics and possible risk factors, and overall patient´s quality of life. The variables will be presented as means and standard deviation (SD) or median and IQR for continuous variables and expressed as absolute values along with percentages for categorical variables. Pooled Odds Ratio (OR) with 95% CI for dichotomous variables (SARS-CoV-2 positive vs SARS-CoV-2 negative) will be estimated. The Binary Logistic Regression and Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) will be performed to explore the association between Long COVID outcomes and independent variables as appropriate. The distribution of durations and probability of symptom´s persistent beyond a specified amount of time will be described by using Kaplan-Meier Survival Model.
